Non-Selective Grass & Weed Killer: The Do's And Don'ts Of Proper Application

DO . . .

  • Carefully read all instructions and precautions on the product package and follow them to the letter.
  • Use spray concentrate if you are treating a large area since concentrated product is the most economical option for coverage of a large area.
  • Note: For treatment of smaller areas where you don't want grass or weeds- such as driveway seams, patios, flower beds and garden borders- you may wish to purchase our ready-to-use spray for the added convenience it offers (no mixing, no pouring).
  • Dispense the product from a pump-type pressure sprayer, which will not only help you work more efficiently and with less hand strain, but also improve your accuracy when applying the product in tight spaces (such as near flowerbeds, gardens, shrubs and trees).
  • Completely wet the lawn before application as the product kills only by contact with plant tissue.
  • Apply grass & weed killer on a sunny day when the air temperature is above 60 degrees Fahrenheit and rain is not in the forecast. If it rains within 12 hours or less of application, check the lawn 24 hours later to see if the grass and weeds have begun to brown and wither. If not, retreatment will be necessary.
  • Rinse off desireable plants accidentally sprayed.
  • Till the soil in treated areas to remove any roots that may still be living and to prepare the ground for sod or grass seed.
  • Since the product kills only living plant tissue (not seeds), wait a week or so for any dormant weed seeds dredged up by tilling to sprout, then spot-treat them to ensure that your new lawn gets off to a weed-free start.
  • Wait at least 12 hours after final spot-treatment to lay down sod or sow your new lawn from seed.

DON'T . . .

  • Apply the product on a cool, rainy or windy day. Cool temperatures (below 60 degrees F) and rain (within 48 hours of application) can seriously hamper the product's effectiveness, while too much wind may cause the spray to drift on to desirable plants and shrubs.
  • Allow people or pets on treated areas until the product has dried completely.
