This species is longer and darker than its German relative, but is somewhat less active and less widespread. Individuals range in size from one to one and one-quarter inches, and in color from dark brown to black. A true lover of moisture, the Oriental cockroach chiefly inhabits basements, crawl spaces and other dark, dank areas in the home. Infestation typically occurs through drains, wall and/or foundation cracks, doors and basement windows.
