Houseflies are very broadly dispersed around the globe and, as the name implies, can be found pretty much wherever human beings live. They thrive both indoors and out, and feed on sewage, food remnants, excrement, dead animals and organic waste products of nearly every description.
While houseflies don't bite, they spread germs and contaminate foodstuffs constantly, leaving a trail of very nasty bacteria, many of which are known to cause serious disorders in humans, including diarrhea, dysentery, hookworm, pinworm, tapeworm and typhus, to cite only the most noteworthy examples.
