Hornets

Hornets differ from yellow jackets in only two significant respects: First, the hornet's coloring is black and white, not black and yellow as with the yellow jacket; and secondly, most types of hornet prefer to construct their football-shaped nests above ground (under eaves, among tree limbs) while yellow jackets favor underground sites. In just about every other respect, though, the two types of wasp are very similar.
