Bees

Bees belong to the same order of insects as wasps, but differ from wasps in that pre-adults are raised on a diet of nectar and honey as opposed to insects. The two most common bees are the honey bee and the bumble bee, both of which are plump, furry and possess the classic black and yellow coloring with which we are all acquainted. Bumble bees nest underground in waxen combs, while wild honey bees nest in hives built in hollow trees. Both types are relatively large so far as bees go and both can inflict painful stings, especially if they feel their nest is at risk. Lastly, honey bees, with their alternating black and yellow stripes, can be easily distinguished from bumble bees, which have a solid yellow abdomen capped by a solid black end segment.
